One of the many Anonymous Cowards let me know that OpenBSD has received a donation of equipment worth $10,000 from Network Security Technologies and Network Security Wizards. This is obviously excellent news for the OpenBSD team, and is yet more evidence of the seriousness with which the wider commercial world is treating free software.

Many people wrote in with this, but Mephistopholies was first. Daemon News, the monthly magazine for all things BSD, now boasts a daily news service, called, unsurprisingly, Daily Daemon News. Read on for some personal opinion.

Dave Brooks writes "It looks like a company called Network Security Technologies, Inc. will be providing commercial support for OpenBSD Integration. This is a huge step for the OpenBSD community." Good to see. Theo, in an impromptu interview, said that he is happy others believe in OpenBSD, and that the project has a much better financial situation these days, though it is still supported entirely by CD and shirt sales.

conio writes "The Wall Street Journal published an article on Friday about the open-source BSDs (mainly FreeBSD) and how they're silently serving the Net. " This was submitted yesterday quite a bit, but was in the pay area-thankfully it's free reading now. Good to see BSD get some of the limelight.

Matthew N. Dodd was the first to write with the news that UC-Berkeley has changed the *BSD license. Effective immediatly, the 3rd clause, that which requires acknowledgement of UCB in all advertising is null and void. Click below to read the letter from UCB.

Anonymous Coward writes "Daemon News has published an article that attempts to clear up misconceptions about FreeBSD. The article is primarily aimed at Slashdot readers based on the comments made in postings. " Well written, informative, and makes things much more clear.

AdamK writes "Here's a very interesting article on security and OpenBSD. It also briefly mentions Linux, comparing the two." A quote from the story: "OpenBSD is so secure that it even got the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice, which stores and transmits top-secret data using 260 copies of the OS."

" Its sorta an outsider fluff piece, but its a nice summary. Talks broadly about the technical differences in the code, the sociologies, and of course, the fact that BSD has a cooler mascot ;)
