Submission + - iRobot Developing a Morphing Robot for the Army (technologyreview.com)

TechReviewAl writes: Future Roombas might be able to squeeze under doors in order to continue vacuuming. IRobot's latest project is an inflatable shape-shifter called Chembot that is designed to squeeze through tight spots. It's shape is altered using several different inflatable chambers. This also enables the robot to propel itself around. Since Chembot is being developed with funding from DARPA it may well be designed for surveillance or search and rescue. Technology Review has a video of the robot in action, and of several other prominent shape-shifting robots currently under development.
