harrymcc writes "When IBM announced its first PC on August 12th, 1981, the news seemed to be that the world's biggest computer company was finally making small computers. In retrospect, though, the announcement was important because it set off a chain of events that led to the creation of a computing standard that dominates the market to this day. Over at Technologizer, I'm celebrating the anniversary by trying to figure out what computing would be like if IBM had decided not to get into the PC business at all."
